After years and years of visiting Mexico City, one of the great cities of the world, we have forgotten about some of the fantastic attractions there as we went off to Oaxaca, Chiapas, Veracruz, Michoacán, and other exciting areas.  Several people kept asking when is Tierra del Sol going to go back to Mexico City.  We decided to return this summer, when the weather is great, and before the city is crowded with the July and August vacationers.  Our concentration will be on some of the magnificent museums (Mexico City ranks up there with Paris, London, and New York City in that area), while we have our meals in some of the finest new restaurants—and some old favorites—in the city.  We will stay in a great boutique hotel, La Casona, in the lovely Colonia Roma neighborhood.

The Tentative Schedule (back to top)

  • Monday, June 6 – arrival at the La Casona Hotel (Durango 280, Colonia Roma, 011-52-55-5286-3001).  Orientation and welcome reception at the hotel.

  • Tuesday, June 7 – After breakfast at the hotel (everyday) visit Museum of Anthropology and Museum Rufino Tamayo in Chapultepec Park.

  • Wednesday, June 8 – Visit Museum of History in Chapultepec Castle.  Visit Museum of Caracol (Mexican history).

  • Thursday, June 9 – Visit Museum of the Templo Mayor in the center of the city. Visit the National Palace to see the murals of Diego Rivera.  Visit the Museum of San Ildefonso in the Centro Histórico.  Visit the Cathedral of Mexico.

  • Friday, June 10 – Visit the Museo de Arte Popular, the finest collection of Mexican folk art.  Visit the Franz Mayer Museum, the finest museum of applied arts in Mexico.

  • Saturday, June 11 – Visit the Bazar Sábado in San Angel

  • Sunday, June 12 – Visit the Bellas Artes Palace.  Visit the Diego Rivera Museum in the Alameda.

  • Monday, June 13 – Departure.

We will have a major meal each day at such places as Pujol, La Casa de las Sirenas, Izote, El Cardenal, San Angel Inn, Los Girasoles, Como, and the like.
