Responding
to popular demand, we are returning to the magnificent city of
Puebla for a memorable New Year’s celebration. We will
be staying in the acclaimed Mesón Sacristía de la
Compañía in the heart of the city. The incredible
colonial architecture, displayed in churches, public buildings,
museums, and private mansions, has earned Puebla the distinction
of being a UNESCO World Heritage site. The talavera tile
produced in and around the city is world famous. From mole
poblano to chiles en nogada, Puebla has made memorable
contributions to world cuisine. You will experience the
best Puebla has to offer as well as having an opportunity to visit
nearby Cholula and Tlaxcala.
You can fly to Mexico
City and take a bus directly from the airport to Puebla (leaving
every half-hour) or you can fly directly to Puebla. In any
event, we will have an orientation and reception when you arrive
at the Mesón Sacristía
de la Campañía.
Our activities will include: Puebla:
Visit
to the Cathedral, one of the largest in Mexico; Capilla
del Rosario in the Santa Domingo Church, one of the
treasures of colonial religious art in Mexico; Biblioteca
Palafoxiana, the oldest library in the Americas; Museo
Poblano de Arte Virreinal; displaying more colonial
art and visiting exhibits; Museo
Amparo, one of the finest privately funded museums
in Mexico;and
famed Talavera factories, shops, and other museums.
Cholula:
The
great Pyramid, largest by volume in the world; Tonantzintla,
everyone’s favorite church; San Francisco Acatepec,
with its incredeible tile façade.
Tlaxcala:
Templo
de San Francisco and Ocotlán
Church; archeological sites of Cacaxtla, with spectacular
murals, and Xochitécatl.
From Puebla, and especially
from Cholula and the road to Tlaxcala, you will have
many photo opportunities to capture the magnificent volcanoes
of Popocatépetl
and Iztaccíhuatl.

cost of the program is $1310 (single supplement $250). Total
cost includes five nights double occupancy in the Mesón
Sacristía de la Compañia in Puebla; full breakfast
and one major meal daily; all tours, including admission fees and
English-speaking guides.
Transportation to and
from Puebla is not included. You
must make your own arrangements.
Space in the program is
limited. A non-refundable
deposit of $200 per person will hold your space. Full payment is
due by November 15. 2010.
