Candelaria is February 2, Candelmas, and the Virgin of Candelaria is the patron saint of Tlacotalpan, a UNESCO World Heritage town on the Papaloapan River about an hour and one-half south of Veracruz city.  A quiet town of pastel colored homes, churches, and other buildings of less than 10,000 inhabitants, it comes alive the end of January each year. Return to Chiapas
March 13 - 20, 2010
Spring break is rapidly coming to mean Chiapas for us.  For the third year in a row we are planning to spend our spring break in the incredibly beautiful southernmost state of Mexico.  The physical beauty of the state, the incredible arts and crafts (particularly in the textiles), the churches and the museums, the marvelous Maya culture, and the distinctive cuisine all keep us coming back. Festival and Folk Art in Michoacán
May 30 - June 7, 2010
For many years we have known that the western Mexican state of Michoacán, the “soul of Mexico,” is one of the richest states for the production of folk arts and crafts.  The traditions of pottery, textiles, lacquers, copper, leather, guitars, and other items are unsurpassed anywhere in the Republic.  In June 2009, photographer Denis Defibaugh and I went into the area of Lake Pátzcuaro and the western highlands to seek out the celebration of “Corpus Christi Day” among the Purépecha, or Tarascan, people, the primary indigenous group in Michoacán.  We had an incredible experience, which we are currently documenting in book form, along with some other festivals we have visited recently. However, we cannot wait to share this experience with  our friends.  We think this will be one the most exciting programs we have ever developed. ($1675)

Dia de los Muertos en Oaxaca
October 29 - November 5, 2010
We now count the time in decades from when we first said “Have the time of your life on the Day of the Dead!”  Hundreds of people have taken us up on this call and I cannot remember any one of them ever being disappointed.  What is surprising is how many have made multiple trips to this same program.  All good things must end and we think this might be our farewell trip for the Day of the Dead in Oaxaca.
