Upcoming
Programs
Dia
de los Muertos en Oaxaca
October 29 - November 5, 2010
PROGRAM CLOSED - WAITING LIST ONLY
We
now count the time in decades from when we first said “Have
the time of your life on the Day of the Dead!” Hundreds
of people have taken us up on this call and I cannot remember
any one of them ever being disappointed. What is surprising
is how many have made multiple trips to this same program. All
good things must end and we think this might be our farewell
trip for the Day of the Dead in Oaxaca. ($1745)
Artes
y Antigüedades
en Puebla
December 29, 2010 - January 3, 2011
Responding to
popular demand, we are returning to the magnificent
city of Puebla for a memorable New Year’s
celebration. We will be staying in
the acclaimed Mesón Sacristía
de la Compañía in the
heart of the city. The incredible
colonial architecture, displayed in churches,
public buildings, museums, and private
mansions, has earned Puebla the distinction
of being a UNESCO World Heritage site. The
talavera tile produced in and around
the city is world famous. From mole
poblano to chiles
en nogada, Puebla has made memorable
contributions to world cuisine. You
will experience the best Puebla has to
offer as well as having an opportunity
to visit nearby Cholula and Tlaxcala.

Candelaria
in Tlacotalpan, Veracruz
January 29 - February 3, 2011
Candelaria is February 2, Candelmas, and the Virgin of
Candelaria is the patron saint of Tlacotalpan, a UNESCO World Heritage town on
the Papaloapan River about an hour and one-half south of Veracruz city. A
quiet town of pastel colored homes, churches, and other buildings of less than
10,000 inhabitants, it comes alive the end of January each year. ($1475)
Food
and Folk Art in Oaxaca
March 12 - March 20, 2011
Visiting some of the finest folk artists in the world in
their homes and workshops, in between learning how to prepare some of the famed
cuisine of Oaxaca makes for a dream trip to Mexico. That is exactly what
we offer you for a marvelous spring break in 2011. ($1890)
Michoacán, El Alma De Mexico
Tierra
del Sol has been drawn more and more to the western Mexican state
of Michoacán. We have even been invited to establish
a Mexican branch of Tierra del Sol in Pátzcuaro. We
are not quite ready to do that but we are interested in having
more programs there. Michoacán is a state that offers
incredible natural beauty, some of the richest folk art in Mexico,
fascinating indigenous cultures, and a distinct and delicious
cuisine. All of this has led to prepare three memorable
trips to Michoacán for the spring and summer of 2011:
Museums,
Meals and More in Mexico City
June 6 - June 13, 2011
After years and years of visiting
Mexico City, one of the great cities of the world, we have forgotten about some
of the fantastic attractions there as we went off to Oaxaca, Chiapas, Veracruz,
Michoacán, and other exciting areas. Several people kept asking
when is Tierra del Sol going to go back to Mexico City. We decided to return
this summer, when the weather is great, and before the city is crowded with the
July and August vacationers. Our concentration will be on some of the magnificent
museums (Mexico City ranks up there with Paris, London, and New York City in
that area), while we have our meals in some of the finest new restaurants—and
some old favorites—in the city.
Day
of the Dead in Guatemala
October 29 - November 5, 2011
Watch for a special announcement about an exciting new
program we will have next year!
A NOTE ON SAFETY IN MEXICO
There has been a lot of bad publicity about
Mexico recently. Mexico
is depicted in the American media as being unsafe, and the United
States State Department has issued warnings about certain areas. We
have traveled extensively to many parts of Mexico in recent months
and never felt threatened. Being in the wrong place with
the wrong interests can be dangerous anywhere. We intend
to avoid such places and such interests and will make sure you
do too.
